iterative design process
Iterative design processes served a key function in Digital Design and other design studios. Its key methodology of creating prototypes that enable testing, analysis, and refinement serve a significant role in exploring design ideas without committing to a specific form or idea. It serves the design process in generating ideas quickly and enabling rapid testing.
Within Digital Design, my project ‘Stardust Pavilion’ utilized iterative design processes with the aid of Grasshopper. By scripting rule-based design iterations, I was able to quickly test and edit iterations without manually editing each element of the model. This process enabled a copious amount of iterations to be created and infinite design opportunities to be explored.
Similarly in studios such as Design Studio Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon, this process of iteration was carried on in stages of design exploration and development. It allowed multiple concepts to be quickly hashed out. It proved beneficial in teamwork where ideas from individuals’ iterations were able to be integrated into our final design.
