dissecting construction systems
Within all construction subjects I undertook, a key learning was the way that different material systems, construction techniques, and building technologies were employed for each case study project and how different structural, protective, and aesthetic layers were employed in the creation of the final product.
Within Construction Analysis, redrawing John Wardle’s Lake Wendouree Residence, both in 2D and 3D, enabling an understanding of the construction sequence and the layers of construction.
Similarly in Construction Design, the digital modeling of McKinnon College’s senior school building enabled an understanding of how construction systems and methodologies are employed in a civic building and under what conditions and circumstances they fail.
Through both processes of analysis, an understanding of materiality, fixings, structure, and loads was formed. I have formed a greater comprehension of the practical aspects of design and how building systems are formed.
